Thank you very much Catherine for your reply. I am on facebook but couldn't find the Threlfall group when I did a search. Please let me know if its definitely there and I might have done something wrong! I have a lot more information about my grandfather. His name was John but he was also known as Jack. He was born (almost certainly) in 1918. His father's name was Harold and his mother's name was Charlotte but (controversially) Charlotte does not appear to be his wife (mistress perhaps as he did apparently have a wife.) My grandmother - Joan Margaret Evans, maiden name - married him (he was already a widower at this time) in Hammersmith, London, in 1946. She was 27 at the time and he was 28. Before they married, he lived at 7, Colville Square, W11. In 1948 they had a daughter together named Christine (my Mum). The marriage did not last and the two parted ways while my Mum was still a baby. He went on to re-marry and have more children but we dont know their names or whereabouts.
Our family tree starts with Thomas in 1550; John 1767, who married Jane Mayor, and dealt in liquor; John Mayor 1800, who married Sarah 2nd cousin, and bought a brewery. His sons, Thomas 1842 and Charles, who presumably ran the brewery lived in a manor called Moor Hall, but sold it in 1919 and moved to Grug Hill Salop Shropshire.Tom's son Harold 1880 must have had John/Jack with Charlotte in around 1918, meaning John/Jack would be 90ish now.
I have discovered that there are a great deal of Threlfalls on my search so far, making it all the more difficult! But if any of this rings any bells to anyone in your family, I would be extremely grateful to learn more.
Many thanks again,
Daisy
