Seeking knowledge on Thrash descendents from Jackson Co., Missouri. These descendents married into Bartlett and William Gray families. More general information: Valentine was born November 30, 1805, Montgomery Co., Virgiia, died March 10, 1896, Floyd Co., Virginia, and was married to Harriett Gray. Parents are believed to be, John Thrash and Lydia Cole. Believed that Harriet's father, Joseph Gray met John Thrash in Rockingham Co., Virginia, and both moved to Floyd County. Valentine also had a sister Elizabeth who married Harriet's brother, William Gray. William and Elizabeth Thrash Gray moved to Jackson Co., Missouri. Needing to confirm birth date of Valentine Thrash's daughter Mahala. If birth date is correct would like to know if there might be other siblings to Valentine and Elizabeth Thrash who might have also had a daughter named Mahala. Would also like to know if Mahala had a second husband by last name of Bartlett, they could have been married in Floyd Co., but appear to have moved to Jackson Co., Missouri. Would love to correspond with anyone who knows more about the Thrash family from Floyd Co., Virginia. Amos Woods is known to have done some writing on this family. Below is some more information on Valentine. If someone is connected to Valentine Thrash I have a fantastic picture of him in his later years and will gladly share a copy. Buried in the Valentine Thrash land grant plot, Bent Mountain, Floyd Co., Virginia.1880 Floyd Co. Virginia Census list Valentine Thrash, 74 years old, widowed gr-father/farmer, with grandson Valentine Thrash Conner family. His family moved several times before settling in Tennesee. At the age of 16 he walked from there to Copper Hill, Virginia. He had a farm of about 3,000 to 4,000 acres, and the house he built is still standing on the mountain named in his honor. He is buried there on the family plot. Dates from tombstone at house he built off the old Sugar Run Road in Copper Hill, Virginia, on Thrash's mountain, named in his honor. Note in Mamie Sowder's diary (dated Dec 25, 1942) calls him Col. M Thresh. From the writings of Amos Woods we learn: Valentine was one of the early justices of the peace when the Locust Grove District was first formed; he was a member of the Legislature of Virginia during the Civil War and was of much service to the families of soldiers in Floyd County. He built a fine brick house and dispensed old-time Southern hospitality. He lived to the great age of 97 years, dying in 1903. Are listed on the "1860 Floyd County, Virginia, Census:" Thrash Valentine 55 farmer/$6,000 $2,205 Harriet 54 Lydia 86 Clingenpeel, John 22 hired hand Woodward, James H. 19 farm hand Tankersly, William H. 9 farm hand Also have Valentine with a second daughter, Mary Ann Thrash born September 24, 1828, and have her married to William C.
