I am not knowledgeable of the THOUROT's in Philadelphia, PA area.
I have seen mention of a Charles L. THOUROT though in my searching.
On rootsweb.com there was a reference i had found:
Charles L. THOUROT 73 y.o. b.France,
d.7 Apr 1914, bur. Forest Hill Cem, Lackawanna Co., PA
Zilphia M. THOUROT 63 y.o. b. Scranton PA, d. 6 Apr 1909, bur. same
There is a baby there too.

Also in Scranton PA Directory of 1890, 1891, and 1892 a Charles L. THOUROT draughtsman located 1010 Olive Scranton is listed.
A George F. clerk and boarding in 1010 Olive in 1891 is listed too.

I have not looked much in PA as i knew of relatives in Hudson Co NJ and NYC/Brooklyn area only on my THOUROT lines and have been looking mainly there for my DIRECT line mostly.

I too believe we are all related eventually and having same surnames makes it closer than not. The various spellings of this name(like many names) still could go back to a one and same line back in time in France or even before that i am sure.

Another large branch of T(H)OUROT were in OH, as well as in Syracuse NY.

Gerry TOUROT has some data online:
http://freenet.buffalo.edu/~ax389
Check there and his email ought to be there as well. He may know more about your PA branch than i do.
I have found a few other THOUROT lines in other areas as well, but like you say it is not very common name.
More and more i have seen it lately, as 3 yrs ago there were only a few references to it online, so we are making progress.
Stay in touch and you can email me as well.

Happy Trails, J
