Just wondering if the following female given names could be Norwegian (various spellings found on census/land/probate records)
(1) Alphere, Alaphere, Alphare, Alfair and (2) Ospher, Osphere, Orpher.
The death certificate for Alphere's son, George Reading, listed his mother as Sarah Thorington but all other records give some variation of the name Alphere. In one census they lived near the family of Carrison and Ospher Amerine which is indirectly connected to the Reading family. Alphere's daughter, Arminta/Armenta, told grandson stories passed down about the old country and the Aurora Borealis.
