They married in the early 1920s in Denver; she was in her sixties. He was a printer, and had worked for the Rocky Mountain News in Denver.After his retirement, he went to the Printers Home. According to family tradition, he "loved to read, and was seldom seen without a book in his hand."
He was from Nebraska.His family still lived there in the late 1920s, when he and Mary Catherine and two of her grandsons made a trip by car over primitive roads to visit them.
A surviving studio photo shows a solid, imposing figure. He was almost bald, with a fringe of either gray or blond hair.
