I do not know if or how they are connected. I am not related to the Thorps of Tecumseh, but I did some research to help with a bit of a mystery regarding a stone placed at the Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh. In the process, I noted most of the Thorps/Thorpes I found with any ties to Tecumseh, Lenawee County, Michigan. After I completed this, I posted the info, and then tossed my notes.
A memorial stone in the Brookside Cemetery reads as follows:
"IN MEMORY OF/EBENEZER/THORP/REVOLUTIONARY/SOLDIER/DIED IN/TECUMSEH/1834"
No evidence could be found to connect any Ebenezer Thorp of that area and/or time frame with Revolutionary War service, so I started digging. The Ebenezer Thorp who died in Tecumseh was born 1780-1790 in England and died in 1831 in Tecumseh. He was likely buried in the old cemetery, and his remains removed to the Brookside Cemetery. I was able to track down the person who actually paid for and placed the stone, and though this individual had the best of intentions, the death date and the mention of Revolutionary War were both in error.
