I'm trying to get started tracing my mother's maternal line of the family tree. I've been trying to find information about a Thornsbury from Pike Co. Kentucky whose name was either James Madison Thornsbury or William Madison Thornsbury. His wife died before him, and her name was Octavia Smith (I've been told). They lived on Dix Fork and two of their sons were killed in a mining explosion in the early 1960s. Their names were Bob and Claude. One of the daughters, Lena "Lenny", married James Troy Mullins and they lived in Sydney (their daughter, Barbara Ann, is my mother). I can't find any references in repeated and varied on-line searches to a Thornsbury of either first name who was still alive in the early 1960s. They had at least two other daughters who were called Goldy and Loly, although they might have been named Golda and Lolla. This great-grandfather was called Mat by his friends and Poppy by his children, at least by his daughters. Octavaia must have died in the 1950s, judging from an old picture I once saw. I don't know. Any help that you could offer to get me onto the right track would really be appreciated! I'm lost in geneological space!!
