They were Quakers, and in those records the parents of the bride and groom were usually the first to sign the list of witnesses to the marriage. Hope that helps you. I've seen the transcription of that marriage record, but can't remember now which monthly meeting it was located in. Some monthly meetings which our ancestors belonged to were Deep River, New Garden, in North Carolina and I can't remember right now the Pennsylvania ones before they moved to North Carolina, but they were in Chester Co PA.
