Thank you for your reply. Thornblade, or Thornblad, is definitely an interesting surname, and I am sure that somewhere down the line we are all connected in some way. :)
Since posting my original message, I have learned more about 'my' Thornblads, and thought I would share that with you here in case we may discover a connection later on...
I have written to the Swedish Archives, and learned the following:
Johan Tornblad was born in Sweden in 1823, and married Johanna Rylander (born 1822 in Sweden). They had the following children:
Anna Christina Tornblad, born 30 July 1848
Johan Gustaf Tornblad, born 19 July 1850
Frans Otto Tornblad, born 11 February 1855
Nils Olaf August Tornblad (my g grandfather), born 11 February 1855
Ida Sofia Tornblad, born 15 June 1859.
My g grandfather, and family, left Sweden on 24 Sept. 1886, and arrived in the U.S. a few weeks later. Sometime along the way, the name was changed to Thornblad.
Nils Olaf A. Tornblad/Thornblad married Lydia Charlotta Bredenberg (born 1845 in Sweden), and they had these children:
Augusta Eva Christina Tornblad, born 23 Sept. 1883
Gunnar(d) August Julius Tornblad/Thornblad, born 11 June 1886 (my grandfather)
Ida L(?) Tornblad, born Sept. 1889 in the U.S.
In the 1900 census record for Sturgeon Lake, Pine Co., MN, there is also a child by the name of John Gustaf Tornblad living with the family, he was born November 1881. (But he is not recorded by the Swedish Archives as being born to Nils, and Lydia, nor is is he in the household record for Sweden, before they emigrated). Augusta is not living with the family, and I doubt that she came to the U.S. with them. I do not know what happened to her.
So, that is my update. I am interested in learning more about these Thornblads/Thornblades, and will write to your brother. Thank you for sharing this with me. :) Please let me know if any of this sounds familiar to you...
Good luck in your research, and I will keep you updated when I learn more...
Thanks again for writing,
