SO, in other words, you have not as yet come across anything re Samuel Thorburn, supposed to have been born Moffatt, Dumfrieshire (? 1765-1775ish)?

Heisi our forbear, who was on Mull and married to Margaret McKinnon there, and a son John born there 1798. From there he went to Skye with the Cheviot
sheep as shepherd. He is my g.g.g.grandfather, and is a mystery as yet. We want to know what relationship our family is to descendants of James of Sanquhar,as their lives or their offspring's lives, must have crossed.I am intrigued because of the likenesses I have seen in photos. A descendant of James who lived on South coast of NSW, looked just like my Grandmother descended from Samuel, when young anyway!! A bone we have not finished chewing. Now younger ones on different legs of Samuel's family are popping up, but so far no more discoveries.
Are you in the same branch as Norma? I forget.
