I have identified 2 generations of Thorburns in my family tree from Newbattle / Westhouses area; a John Thorburn born circa 14 April 1795, son of a John Thorburn born circa 8 December 1765 in the Musselburgh/Fisherrow area of Inveresk / married to Mary Mill - I have identified several further generations back beyond this also).
John Thorburn (b1795) married a Jane Bryce (b1794 d1866)and I have so far identified 4 children (one of whom, John is a direct line ancestor), John b1825 d 1895, Mary b1820 , Alison b1822 and Alexander b1830.
My family tree is public on Ancestry.com . Apart from these two generations, main concentrations through the 1700's were in Musselburgh and Fisherrow area in Midlothian and in and around Haddington / shire areas from John 1820 who died in Saltoun. Happy to share info if interested.
