I have identified an ancestor named James Thorburn, born in Glasgow 1791(?) and married to Elizabeth (Wotherspoon). Their descendants immigrated to Australia and New Zealand.

I have not been able to identify James' father and the dates are a little short as your James would have been 16/17 yrs. at the time my James was born. Perhaps an uncle-nephew relationship?

Anyway -

On my family line James had a son, Andrew Wotherspoon Thorburn, born 1831 in Glasgow who married Margaret (Wilson), they immigrated to Australia and finally ended up in New Zealand. He died in 1901 in the town of Silverdale.

Andrew W. Thorburn and Margaret had a daughter Beatrice, born in the 1860's?. Beatrice married William Burke, probably in Christchurch NZ in the 1880's and they had at least four sons, Tom, Frank, Rupert and Malcolm. Frank (Francis Lionel Burke) was my grandfather. He was born in Warkworth NZ in 1901 and died in an accident in Auckland NZ in 1945.

Hope this points you in the right direction.

TBurke
