We, who are members of Clann MacTamhais (MacTavish/Thom(p)son) are very proud of our Chief who was matriculated 23 July 1997 by Sir Malcolm Innes of Edingight, Lord Lyon King of Arms.
We are aware that the property was sold in 1795, as many Clan lands have been sold over the years. We also realize that this means nothing to the bloodline of the Chief.A Chief is a Chief by bloodline, not by what property he owns.If the Chiefship transferred with the property, you'd have Chiefs all over the place.
You keep referring to the Potalloch Writs. Those writs have been available for several hundred years. There is nothing secret about them. They are within the realm of the Lord Lyon and certainly within his access for research.I do not believe that the Lord Lyon would have matriculated Dugald MacTavish of Dunardry as Chief if these writs you keep referring to proved that Dunardry was not Chief.
You refer to Dugald and John having "disponed" the title.I assume you have seen documentation on this?Where is the documentation located? What is the book and document number where this item is registered?I really want to see and obtain copies of these original documents.I assume they would be on public record?
You speak about the motto and give information about it.Where is the documentation that says this?It is amazing to me that you would assume that you know more about our motto and ancestry than the Chief himself would.
You said "Your motto states "Not forgetful".This is because you have 12 MacT in your line along with 8 Campbells of Argyll by marriage. You are a Clan in your own but a subdivision of Clan Campbell.Thats available to see in Edinburgh."
You admit we are a Clan in our own right, but yet say we are a subdivision of Clan Campbell. That is not what the public records say in Edinburgh. The public records say that we are an Independent Clan and Dugald MacTavish of Dunardry is the Chief.A letter from Lord Lyon King of Arms confirms that Clan MacTavish is an Indepedent Clan and literally states that we are "NOT a sept of Clan Campbell."
My very first post on this thread gives the information where anyone - anyone - can obtain the documentation without taking your word, mine or anyone else's.
Lisa, you may not like the Lord Lyon's decision, but it is a decision and a matriculation. In your state of anger and hate, you are allowing people to give you information that is making you look foolish.Statements that you are making are misleading, incorrect and appear to have only a purpose of discrediting others. Please, give you spirit time to heal from whatever "wrong" you feel it has been done.
We have said over and over again - research your genealogy.Don't assume. The Thom(p)son name is a large one.Your ancestors may come from any country.
I would urge people to read books also - and remember - a book is the summation and/or opinion of the author who read other books whose authors had their summations/opinions, etc.Use books as a research tool to learn and enjoy.
