Looking for information on Dugald THOMSON b. 2 Sep 1819 Scotland d. 2 Aug 1903 Erin Twp., Wellington, Ontario, Canada. Dugald according to census immigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1830. He married Margaret McLellan who immigrated to Canada in 1833. She was born 1 May 1822 in Scotland and d 25 Jan 1903 also in Erin, Wellington, Ontario, Canada. Their religion given as Disciples of Christ in the Ontario census, marriage and death records. They had 13 children.
Children mentioned in the obituary of son John Jacob Thomson are:
1) John Jacob b. 20 July 1866 in Hillsburg, Wellington, Ontario (according to obit) d. 13 Mar 1924 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is buried in Oakhill Cem. John md. Ann McIntosh 6 Jan 1899 in Detroit, Wayne Co., MI. Anna, b. 1858 is the daughter of Peter McIntosh b. 1803 Scotland and Mary Taylor b. Abt. 1824 Scotland. Peter and Mary appear on the 1881 census for McNab, Renfrew S. Ontario census. He is 78 and she is 63 with children Caroline 28 and Alexander 24 both born in Ontario. John Jacob is listed as 14 years old on the 1881 census for Erin, Wellington, Ontario, Canada.
2) Donald L. d. bef 1924. According to the obit., John Jacob left Canada at the age of 19 to join a brother, "D. L." in Grand Rapids, MI and learn the trade of jeweler. Donald L. Thomson appears on a Grand Rapids city directory as a jewelry store owner.
3) Archibald b. 17 Mar 1860 on 1881 census aged 21. He appears on the 1901 Erin census as 41 b. Ontario Living with parents and Elizabeth A. and single.
4) Neil b. Abt. 1850 d. 1925 md. Lettia COLLINS on 14 Jan 1879 Erin, Wellington
5) Sarah Beth b. Abt. 1863 d. aft. 1924 She’s on 1881 census 18 years. In 1901 Erin census she is living with the family of Wm and Mary Matthew. She’s 27 and a teacher.

7) Catherine b. abt. 1857 md. Alex McKinnon on 28 Nov 1883 on 1881 census 24
8) Mrs. A. Thomson of Toronto – Have not been able to identify this person. Could it be a typo and is Miss Elizabeth A. Thomson, #9 below?
9) Elizabeth A. b. 11 Mar 1858 on 1881 census aged 22. She’s living with parents and brother Archy in 1901 census also for Erin twp. She’s 43 years old and single.
10) Dugald H.b. 24 May 1864 on 1881 census aged 16. Married first Jane McGill on 2 Jun 1890 in Erin, Dugald 36 and Jane 38 appear on 1901 Erin twp., census He’s an undertaker. His second marriage was to Amy Thomson age 18 d/o Angus and Christina Hyndman on 8 Mar 1911. It is this document that gives his mother's maiden name as Margaret McLELLAN! He was 46 at the time.
11) Possible brother Peter appearing next door to Dugald H. (house 69)on 1901 Erin Twp., Wellington, Ontario census. Peter age 51 b. 15 July 1850 Farmer md. Annie b. 29 Dec 1867 age 36 with children Arch R. b. 23 Jan 1886 Ontario age 15 and James R. b. 2 May 1894 Ontario age 6
12) Possible brother Joseph appearing in house #126 on 1901 Erin census. Joseph b. 2 Nov 1859, wife Emily A. b. 3 Nov 1868 and son Norman b. 27 Mar 1901 along with 2 servants. Joseph is also a farmer.
13) I have no idea as to the identity of the 13th child.
I should also add that there was a sensational robbery and triple murder at John Jacob Thomson’s jewelry store in Grand Rapids, MI. One of the victims was a cousin, John N. Thomson d. 18 Sep 1913 married to Viola. I have not been able to connect him to the family above. Can anyone help me on this.
