You may be correct with the name Nichol, In the 1851 Canada West census there is a Nichol family living in York County. William b. 1818 Scotland farmer; Ann b. 1824 Canada and four children Mary 8yrs.; Rachel 6yrs.; Ann 4yrs.; David 2yrs.

Also in Ontario marriages there is a Mary Nichol b. 1844 Scarborough Twp. married to James Thomson b. 1814 Vaughan Twp. (son of John and Eliza Gibb) dated 6 Oct 1864 at Scarborough Twp., York Co.

I do not have this James Thomson in my database.
