John Thomson (1805-1841) composer and Professor of Music
I am researching the life of the composer John Thomson (1805-1841), who in 1839 was appointed the first Professor of Music at Edinburgh University. His parents, Andrew Mitchell Thomson (1779-1831) and Jane Carmichael (d. 1840), were married at the West Kirk, Greenock on 24 April 1802.
I am frustrated because I am unable to verify John Thomson's birth details, which are cited in all music reference works as: born in Sprouston, near Kelso, Roxburghshire on 28 October 1805.
If you have John Thomson in your tree and can help to clarify the puzzle, I would love to hear from you.
Best wishes
