I have subsequently found out that Mary Thoms's nickname was Polly. Her father was Samuel Eastlake and her mother was Alice Lowes. She had 2 brothers Samuel and George and 4 sisters Alice, Gertrude, Mabel and Lilian. They hailed from Newcastle but also lived in Manchester.
