My Great Great Grand Father was William Thompson, he was from New Castle upon Tyne. The familiy had a merchant shpping company. He had a line that covered the rout between England and San Francisco. He married Mary Stafford in England in 1861, he died in the Fakland Islands when his ship sank. He had verious children, William, Richard, John my Great Grand Father, and some other sons and daugthers. A daugher married someone called Fagan in California, Richard married somebody called Bessie, I think inNew Mexico or Texas. John married in Mexico and some live in Argentina.
The story in familiy says that, although he was wealthy, when he married Mary Stafford her family dishounour her as he was not from a noble family.
Do you think that there can be a conection?.
