Reprint of circa 1880s photo of Barbara Jane Thompson (married name Sunderland)
I recently purchased the subject contemporary reprint of a studio portrait of a young woman taken by R. C. Gledhill, Jerseyville, IL.It is identified on the back in modern printed handwriting:
"BARBARA JANE (THOMPSON) SUNDERLAND.
DAUGHTER OF: MARY ANN [ALLEN] THOMPSON AND
WILLIAM CHARLES THOMPSON.
MOTHER TO:
CLARA
HENERY
W
WARREN
WILBUR
GRAND-MOTHER TO:
JAMES W. SUNDERLAND
VALERE SUNDERLAND
BARBARA THELMA JOHNSON
FRED WILBUR JOHNSON
GREAT GRAND MOTHER TO:
PATRICIA ANN HINKLE HARRIS.
MILDRED KATHLEEN HINKLE PADILLA
THELMA JUNE HINKLE BRENER.
STAR ROSEMARY HINKLE NORSKOG,
HINKLE.
AUBURN HAIR, BLUE EYE'S.
R. C. GLEDHILL COR. PEARL, AND MAIN STS.
JERSEYVILLE ... ILLINOIS."
According to "Ann Sunderland, wife of William Hansell: Proposed Sunderland Lineage," by Judy Griffen (2007), on 19 Oct 1883, Barbara Ann Thompson (Mrs.) Bridges, born 6 Jul 1856, died 6 Nov 1933, married James Slack Sunderland, born 1841 in NJ, died 3 Jun 1931.I found the couple listed in the 1900 Census data for Jerseyville (resided on Daly Street), and the 1920 and 1930 Census data for Jerseyville (resided on Hollow Avenue), Jersey Co., IL.The couple had four children (all born in IL)--Lottie Fay Sunderland (1884-1889), Wayland D. Sunderland (188-1960), James Warren Sunderland (1894-1976), and Wilbur Wines Sunderland (1897-1970).
Barbara was reportedly born in Missouri to parents born in Kentucky, but I have been unable to find her in earlier census data.
