Hi,
Their relationship seems to have flourished in early (late 1600s and early 1700s).I'm thinking that they were so close then that it was probable that they came to America together.I guess I should check the passenger lists to see where these families intersect.
The Waddy association appears to have come from Louisa Co. VA. For example, Samuel Waddy Jr. listed friends Nelson Thomson and Charles Thomson as executors in his will (along with Wm Waddy).Witnessed in 1780.Also, Waddy Thomson was assigned guardian of Samuel Waddy, orphan of John Waddy in Louisa Co. in 1700s.
The Drury association appears to come from the association of Robert Thompson and William Drury in Chesterfield Co. VA.Robert died ca. 1697 and named one of his sons Drury. Many other Drury Thompsons came later, of course.
The association of the Thompsons with the Jennings and Isham families also resulted in "inter-naming" during this time. The association seems to have weakened as the kids moved south and west from VA.New alliances grew as they moved. It's nice that they did this internaming so that we can study the "naming genetics."In my line, there is a Benjamin Thompson in Bute Co. NC who had sons Jennings, Drury, and Isham.I'm trying to situate Benjamin in VA.The first record of him is in NC, but with sons having names like Drury, Jennings and Isham there has to be either a VA connection or an old world connection.
Cheers,Dale
