Mr. Lewis Thompson departed this life February 10, 1940, age 77 years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nancy Welch Thompson, 13 children, Clint, Floyd, Mrs. Frank Lafford, James and Ada of Tazeweell, Tom, Wint, Mrs. George Upton, Mrs. Cleve Nash, Mrs. Creed Sutton of Middlesboro, Mrs. Jack Upton of New Tazewell, Mrs. Paul Gourly of Knoxville and Henry of Springfield, Ohio.
There are 65 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and one brother, Wint Thompson of Kentucky.
The body was laid to rest at Liberty Cemetery. Rev. Edgar Owens officiating. Haynes in charge.

THOMPSON, NANCY WELCH - Aug. 7, 1940
Mrs. Nancy Welch Thompson was born March 2, 1872; departed this life July 11, 1940. Age
68 years, 4 months and 9 days old.
She was married to Lewis Thompson in 1888, who preceeded her to the grave five months ago. To this union were born fourteen children, thirteen of which survive. They are: Mrs. Frank Liford, Mr. Floyd Thompson, Mr. Clint Thompson, Miss Ada Thompson, Mr. Jim Thompson all of Tazewell, Mrs. Creed Sutton, Mr. Wint Thompson, Mr. Tom Thompson, Mrs. George Upton of Kentucky, Mr. Harvey Thompson of Springfield, Ohio, Mrs. Jack Upton of New Tazewell, Mrs. Paul Gourley of Knoxville and a host of relatives and friends.
She professed faith in Christ at the age of fifteen and joined the Baptist Church at Cedar Grove and later moved to the Baptist Church at Liberty. She lived a faithful member until death. She called her children to her bedside and told them that her home was in Heaven and she wanted them all to meet her there.
She is gone but not forgotten.

Mrs. Mary Manerva Upton, age 79, of Goin, died at the home of a daughter Mrs. Charlie Branson of Sharps Chapel on September 19. She was a member of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church. Survivors: George Upton of Middlesboro, Ky., Manuel Upton of Tazewell, Rufus Upton of New Tazewell; daughters Mrs. Charlie Branson of Sharps Chapel, Mrs. Roxie Stemye of Sharps Chapel, Mrs. Nancy Frye of Walland, Tennessee, Mrs. Myrtle Elmore of Goin; 29 granchildren and 21 great grandchildren; brothers Clint and Harvey Thompson of Springfield, Ohio; sisters Mrs. Docie Nash of Middlesboro, Ky., Mrs. Lucy Upton of Gibson Station, Va., MRs. Louisina Sutton of Tazewell,
Mrs. Janie Strunk of Knoxville, Mrs. Ada Davis of New Tazewell.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Coffey Funeral Home Chapel with the
Rev. Dewey Smith officiating. Burial was in the Ball Cemetery at Tazewell. Pallbearers: Wheeler Thompson, Anderson Thompson, Verlin Upton, Wayne Upton, Sewell Upton and J. M. Bailey.

Mrs. Roxie Stemeye of Knoxville and Mrs. Nancy Frye of Wallened, Tenn.; brother George Upton of Gibson Station, Va.; sisters Mrs. Minnie Dambert of Mishawah, Ind., Mrs. Dollie Medina of East Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Allie Wilson of Rose Hill, Va.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of Church of God.
Funeral service was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Springdale Baptist Church with Rev. John Coffey officiating. Interment in the Cedar Fork Cemetery. Pallbearers: Charlie Branson, Grant Carpenter, J. R. Collins, Cecil Long, Leigh Lemons and Frank Lemons.

Rufus Jack Upton, age 45, died suddenly Sunday morning. Survivors: wife Mrs. Maude Thompson Upton of New Tazewell; sons Rufus of Monroe, Mich., Verlin, Wayne, Leroy and Clark of New Tazewell; brothers George of Middlesboro, Ky., and Manuel of Tazewell; sisters Mrs. Charlie Branson of Sharps Chapel, Mrs. Ernest Stemeye of Knoxville, Mrs. Sherman Frye of Wallard and Mrs. Bethel Elmore of Monteray; 4 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
He professed faith in Christ at an early age and joined the Colmar Missionary Baptist Church and remained a member until death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Reece Funeral Home Chapel with the
Rev. Dewey Smith officiating. Burial was in Cedar Fork Cemetery. Pallbearers: Bill Walker, R. G. Walker, Ryburn Cole, Gleason Miley, J. M. Bailey and Frank West. Friends served as flowerbearers. Songs rendered by Cole Quartet.
