Adam, Moses, Elijah, Aaron, John and James Thompson Union/Lumpkin/Dawson GA & SC
I am researching my Thompson Line in NE Georgia.
I descend through Eli (Elijah) Thompson b abt 1812 in South Carolina (1850 Lumpkin Georgia census) and was called “Lije” by the family.Elijah was a traveling yard goods salesman by family history, which means he probably traveled and sold cloth by the yard.Elijah Thompson married Charlotte (Lottie) Philips / Phillips b Jan 16 1842 in North Carolina and comes through a long line of Philips from Surry and Ashe county NC.Elijah and Charlotte had five children:
James Milton b Dec 29 1861 Dawson GA married on 14 May 1882 in Lee County Virginia to Katherine King died 4 Apr 1937 in Malin, Klammath Oregon.
Mattie b abt 1863 Dawson GA married A. Hale abt 1883
twin girls Mary Elizabeth b abt 1864 Dawson GA married on 21 Apr 1885 in Lee County VA to Charlie Thomas b 29 Mar 1868 died 6 Nov 1939 in TX.She was a Wesleyan Methodist preacher.
Isabel (Belle) Charlotte Thompson b Dawson GA married John W Godsey on 2 Dec 1880 in Lee County VA
Thomas Louis Thompson b May 2 1867 Dawson married Louisa Millie Belle Taylor 16 Oct 1902 in Gate city Scott County VA and died 4 may 1952 in TN
According to family history Elijah was wounded in the civil war, at one point owned a farm of over 200 acres in Dawson GA on which he owed back taxes. In 1867 Elijah came in one day after working on his farm with chest pains and died later that night.A brother or brother in law would pay the taxes and get his farm after his death. His wife Charlotte later married Richardson (Dick) Upchurch and moved to Rose Hill Virginia.Family history states that Elijah had a brother “Earn”, Jim and John Thompson and that his father’s name was possibly named Aaron.Family history also states that he immigrated to or through Savannah from England or that his family is possibly of English origin.Elijah was allegedly much older than Charlotte and had been previously been married.Elijah does not show up in the 1840 Lumpkin census.I believe he is in the household of A H Thompson as a 20-30 y.o. in the 1840 Lumpkin census.
A. H. Thompson is Adam Heath Thompson who shows up in the 1840 Lumpkin GA census, the 1830 Habersham GA census, and 1800-1820 Pendleton SC census. He had at least 11 children according to census.Adam Heath Thompson may have been born or immigrated through VA according to census of his children in 1880 and 1900.Based on family history info and local records we have compiled the following composite of siblings of Elijah Thompson:

I received a box of family history information via another descendant of Elijah Thompson named Martha Short.
INFO FROM MARTHA SHORT FILES:
Father of Thomas Louis (T.L.) Thompson, Elijah(Lige) Thompson born in 1821 in England and came through Savannah with his brother John according to family history.Died in 1867 in Dawsonville, GA. Brothers of Lige were Jim, John and Earn Thompson.Elijah was a yard goods salesmans (cloth), and his brother John settled in North Carolina.
Elijah married Lottie had lots of land in Georgia (Dawsonville?) , over 200 acres, raised hogs and farmed. The night he died he worked in the cornfield all day. Died a little while before T.L. was born. Fought in Civil War, got injured. Elijah was a lot older than Lottie.
Would love to share and learn what you have.We are actively searching in original records so check with me regularly.
