Hi Mary,
Wish I did have an answer for you; but maybe your research will bring an answer for me. There aren't enough months elapsed between the birthdate you give for Charles and the birthdate of 25 April, 1845 that I have for my ancestor, Louis Christian Thieman -- otherwise I'd suspect they could be brothers.
But for what it might help as clues, my Louis (also spelled Lewis at times -- for whatever reason, he never wrote his own name, neither in German nor English, and others wrote it for him as they "heard" it) was born 25 Apr 1845 in Concordia, Lafayette County, MO, the son of Frederich (also Frederick or just Fred) Thieman and Lena Leifer [that is the spelling of her name shown on Louis' death certificate, though another place it is written as Caroline Leefler?].
In Louis' applicaion for Civil War veteran's benefits, he stated that his parents immigrated from Germany through the port at New Orleans and up the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers by boat to the German-speaking settlement of Concordia, but I have never had time to find proof of that.
Though Louis married and stayed in Missouri, part of the family did move to Nebraska and his mother (Lena or Caroline or whatever the name turns out to be) is believed to have died near Broken Bow, Neb.
Perhaps you can find something for both of us from these clues.
Dan Jones
