Marie, I found the following on Sybil this past weekend: She was born on 10 October 1916 in Louisiana and died on 22 October 1986 in Sulphur, Calcasieu Parish, LA. She was buried 24 October 1986 at Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly here in Calcasieu Parish. At the time of her death, she was residing at 619 S. Stanford Street in Sulphur. The obituary identified her brother Alvin Thibodeaux and her four children (Daphne was listed as Daphne Elizabeth Darbone). For whatever reason Louis is not listed as a survivor, leaving the reason open to speculation. Her parents were not listed as preceding her in death. However, I found her in the 1920 Federal Census (Sulphur; Ward 4; p. 16B) with her parents Gerard and Emma and brother Alvin. Ages were 45, 39, 3-2/12, and 3/12 respectively. In the 1930 Census (Sulphur; Ward 4; p. 8A), the family remained the same. Ages were listed as 54, 48, 13, and 10. Gerard's and Emma's ages at first marriage were given as 39 and 33, so it would appear that this was the first marriage for both of them. In both Censuses, all four are listed as Louisiana-born. Without starting a marriage/baptism records check of individual church records, I'm at a standstill. Father Hebert's multi-volume set of southwest Louisiana church and civil civil records ends at 1909, about three years too early to do you any good. I've mentioned Sybil to the folk at the genealogical library. Perhaps something may come of it. I will check as work permits and will follow up if and when I have any additional information for you. If you'd like to have paper copies of the obituary and/or censuses, let me know. E-mail me at edlaird@juno.com or the address above. Best wishes, David Notify Administrator about this message?
