Hi Melody,As far as I can tell “Autobee” does not come from the French in Quebec.PRDH does not list it as an aka name from 1600-1799 in all their documents.
I googled the name and came up with several possible families that your Charles could come from. There was one Charles Autobee (1812-1882).Perhaps one of his kids is who you are looking for. There is a lot of history concerning this Charles.
In the article below about Delaware Indian Sarah Autobees perhaps her first husband was named Charles. If so it could be the one that you are talking about. She did remary in 1823 and if your Charles died about 1821 there may very well be a connection there.
I googled his name and came up with a whole bunch of articles that may help in your research.Below are a couple of articles.
Good luck, Janet

Thomas Tate Tobin was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on May 1, 1823 to Bartholomew Tobin, an Irish immigrant and Sarah Autobees. Sarah, believed to have been a Delaware Indian, had been widowed before marrying Tobin and brought a son, Charles Autobees (later Autobee), into the marriage.
