My GGfather, Johann Stephan Theus, came to Rock Island, IL, in 1882 from the same village (Ems) in Switzerland, as did several of his siblings- including a Christian Theus. I have just completed a genealogy of this clan. I have not pursued the family of the first Christian Theus, because I am not sure how we are related. The 1777 tax role for Ems lists 4 Theus (Teus); the 1835 census for the village lists 26 Theus. 85% of the females were named Maria, but they had different middle names. (LDS files). I am interested in sharing information of the Theus families from Ems. I visited the village 2 summers ago-- Theus still live there.
