I find this woman on the census enumerated on 19 Jun 1880 in 4th Ward, St. Martin Parish, LA, found on National Archives Microfilm T9, Roll 470, pp. 97-98(46-47).
Line 49, Dwelling #264/Family #272: Emoselia WILTZ, widowed black female age 40, living as Sister-in-law in household of Henry ADAMS, black male age 50, a Planter, & his wife Emma (a married black woman also age 40). Listed below Emoselia are six WILTZ children: Marcel, male age 19; Arthur, male 16; Al[?]exandrine, female 10; Alexandre, male 7; Galbert, male 5; Gabrielle, male 5. The two older boys were Farm Laborers. All were born in LA, as were all their parents. None could read or write.
Researching black families before the Civil War is difficult, but not impossible. Try the database of Midlo called Afro-Louisiana History and Genealogy at
