ELIAS THAYER, SR., was born on Jan. 25, 1789, in Westhampton Twp., Hampshire Co., MA, to Elias Thayer and Rachel French, and died April 4, 1863, buried in the Union Cemetery in Guys Mills, Crawford Co., PA.
Elias was married twice, firstly to Anna C. Morse, and secondly to Mary (maiden name unknown.)
He first married Anna C. (Cutler) Morse. According to cemetery records, she was born on May 3, 1786, in New York, to Enos and Anna Morse, and died at age 30, in Riga, Monroe Co., NY, on March 8, 1816. (Cemetery Records from the Congregational Church; Riga Corners, Riga, Monroe Co., NY, copied 1939, by Myrte Rice Hanes, Irondequoit Chapter, NSDAR, Rochester, NY)
Between (probably) 1811 and 1815, Elias Thayer married Anna Morse and had daughter, Minerva Thayer.
Child: Minerva Narcissa Thayer was baptized on Oct. 9, 1815, as “daughter of Elias.”
In 2011, Bob Kulls was researching his ancestor, Minerva Narcissa Thayer. Her information is close (if not the same) to that of Elias’ daughter with Anna, Minerva Narcissa, who married James Van Natten, and moved with the Thayer family to live in Pennsylvania. The Van Nattens lived in the Borough of Cooperstown, Venango Co., KY, and sometimes in Crawford Co., PA.
In the 1850 Census for Jackson Twp., Venango Co., PA, James and Minerva lived with five children. The census indicates that this Minerva was born about 1817, in Massachusetts. The Census also indicated that Elias’ wife, Mary, was also born in Massachusetts, where in later records the state was New York. James died in 1857, and Minerva died on March 4, 1892, in Cooperstown, buried in Sugarcreek Memorial Cemetery, in Sugarcreek,Venango Co., PA. (Find a Grave)
