Bob, My assistant, Jerry Thayer of Virginia found Elias Thayer's 1858 will in the estates section of the Court House in Meadville, PA.It was proved 27 April 1863.In it he names his 2nd wife, Mary, and sons Elias and Boyington.
From Otisco, Onondaga, NY church records:"Elias Thayer Jr. received into church by profession, May 1814."
From New York, Elias moved to Randolph County, PA about 1822-1825, with others migrating from New York to settle in Crawford County, PA.
I do not believe Minerva was born in Massachusetts. The census is considered a secondary source and can be misleading, as it was based upon the infomation provided to the Census taker, and could be anything. The church reoord however, would be considered a primary source.
Likewise, the cemetery headstone relating the birth, would be considered a secondary source.
It may be that Minerva was born a while before the baptism, but the baptism date is considered VALID when a birth record is not available.
Please send me your E-mail address if you are still interested in ordering the Thayer Pedigree Referral Service so I can send you an order form.I hope this is helpful.Patricia ([email protected])
