Orrin Thayer of Hampden, was adopted into the home of Mary Emerson Pettengill family of Etna, which is near Hampden, at the age of 4, but kept the Thayer name. I could find very little of him, or his Thayer parents. He is buried in the Locust Cemetery with his wife, Melissa and their children Josie and Scottie. I gave it a good search but not as thorough as I would have liked, to find his family living in the Hampden area. Hoping for photos or diaries of the tragic events, or even to find how Orrin and Scottie died in 1876. One of the suspects claimed to go that morning to tell Orrin's family of the nights events, living in Hampden. I had hoped to find proof of this, or what he said, considering the was in Hampden by sun up, and I still consider to be suspect. Thank you for your interest, it is a complex mystery.
