Obit of James Tharp, b. Pattenburg, NJ., d. 1930 PA.
James Tharp, a retired Lehigh Valley Railroad engineer, died at 3 O'clock yesterday afternoon at the Easton Hospital, of a complication.
He was admitted to the hopsital April 21 to undergo an operation for a carbuncle. Mr. Tharp had been in the employ of the Lehigh Valley for the past 49 years. He entered its service as a fireman at Easton on November 2 1889, and on January 15, 1905, was promoted to engineer in which capacity he served until April 1 last when he was placed on the pension list.
He is survived by a stepson, John Henry Herb of Easton:
six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. he was a native of Pattenburg, N.J., and had resided in this city nearly a half a century. For the past five years he mad his home with his grandaughter, Mrs. Clifford Sandt
Mr. Tharp was a member Black Knight Commandery, No. 109, Knights of Malta; Easton Aerie, No. 111, F.O.E.; Easton Forest Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Rajah Temple, Madison River Lodge, F.& M. of West Liberty, O., Lehigh Consistory, the Lehigh Valley Veterans Association, Easton Division, of the B. Of I. F.& E, and Travelers Insurance Association.
