Hi Peter

Further to my last message. My father was Alf Thackeray who was drowned in river Hull around 1938. Alf was the son of Annie Thackeray (father unknown). Annie died when Alf was in his early teens and he was brought up by Annies sister Mary (Batty ?) who lived at 343 Grovehill Road. At the time of Alf's death we all lived on a houseboat called "Wandoo" some several hundred yards from Beverley shipyard. After Alf's death my mother Ruth (known as Rosie) married Alf's Uncle Fred Thackeray. At the time of the marriage Ruth was 20 and Fred some 20 years older. Fred came from a large family ie Arhur, Alf (who was killed in France in WWI) George, Jim (Raymonds father), Edward, John (who was the foreman rubbish collector and looked after the horses down Hengate),Mary,Annie (my grandmother), Fanny and the most well known Milly (who had a cottage opposite the cattle market pub. I am sure that your mother or her sisters will recognise some of my Uncles and Aunts.

Hope to hear from you again as I am trying to complete a family tree. As far as I can find out the Thackeray:s lived in Thearne in the early 1800s

Frank Thackeray
