Lana, et al, please do what you can to clarify the DEVOSS family for us. Pat Frunzi has found a lot of data but needs help to put it together. Be sure to give her credit for this research. Remember that not all of the following is proven. It's a compilation based on what is known so far and some educated guesses.

Joseph DEVOSS (ca. 1730 - by 1794, Westmoreland Co., PA) m1. ca. 1752, Hannah [EBERHAR(D)T?], who died before 1787, when Joseph had 2d wf. Anna Barbara (ca. 1766 - 1830+, OH?)

Joseph DEVOSS may have been son of John DEVOUR / DEVORS / DEVAS (ca. 1700 - 1750, Lancaster Co., PA) John was granted 300 acres on Octorora-one, perhaps Octorora Creek, which now divides Chester & Lancaster Cos., PA.

Joseph DEVOSS had son John, a joiner, who seems to have been listed on some records as a co-owner of Joseph's land, but Joseph's probate seems to have covered the entire 371 acres. Half was sold to pay debts, and the remainder divided among the three youngest daughters, Elizabeth, wf/o Valentine SANDLE; Hannah ALTMAN; & Helena "Nelly" FULLWOOD. The children of Joseph and first wf. Hannah may have been John, Joseph, Isaac, Elizabeth, Catherine, and Daniel. Does anyone have proof of the names of children of Joseph and his first wife?

John might have been John Eberhart DEVOSS (ca. 1754 - 1830+, Ross Co., OH) m1. Anna; m2. 23 Nov. 1819, OH, Mary Ann "Nancy" TODD.

Joseph (ca. 1756 - 1811).

Isaac ?

Elizabeth (ca. 1760 - 1798, PA) m. Zephaniah BRYAN (ca. 1752, Fredk. Co., MD - 9 May 1838, Plum Twp., Allegheny Co., PA; bu. Presbyterian Cem., Murrysville, PA). On 15 Apr. 1834, Allegheny Co., PA, aged 82, he made pension application; lived at Connelstown, Westmoreland/Fayette Co., PA, at enlistment; was placed on roll 28 Apr. 1834; [second wf.] widow Jane applied 4 Oct. 1853, aged 85, W2061, VA [Abstracts of the Rev. War, by WHITE].

Catherine, b. ca. 1763, m. ca. 1784, PA, Daniel DERRINGER (9 Apr. 1763 - 10 May 1841, Hardin Co., OH). Daniel was bpt. 11 Je. 1763, St. Michaels & Zions. He is believed to have been listed as Daniel DARNER, Plum Twp., 1790.

Daniel DEVORSS (ca. 1769, PA - 1844, Buchanan Co., MO), m. Ruth _. Daniel may not have been a son of Joseph. Does anyone have proof either way?
_____
History of Ross & Highland Counties, Buckskin Twp., Isaac DEVAUSE settled on survey 14101 in 1803, with his father Joseph, who owned the land, and brother John. The first Joseph had died by 1794, so who were the Josephs of Ross County? Could Isaac be son of the second Joseph?

Children of Joseph DEVOSS & 2d wf. A. Barbara:

Elizabeth, b. 17 Oct. 1787, bpt. 24 Oct. 1787, Sewickley Lutheran, sponsors Kilian & Dorthea HAGER. Eliz. m. Valentine SANDLE / SANDALAS / SONNELS / SCANDELY.

Hannah (14 Oct./Dec. 1789 - 16 Jan. 1866, Mill Ck. Twp., Coshocton Co., OH; bu. Shepler Cem.) m. 1811, PA, Michael ALTMAN, (11 May 1772, PA - 4 July 1860, OH). A translation of the German baptismal record for Hannah says b. 14 Oct. 1789, bpt. 9 Jan. 1790. Possibly the record said born in the tenth month.

Helena "Nelly", b. 15 Mar. 1792, PA, m. Charles FULLWOOD. She was bpt. Zion Lutheran, aka Schwaabs / Swopes; note says Union Church. Charles FULLWOOD may have m1. Isabella HUNTER, who d. 12 Mar. 1815.

Please make any additions or corrections you can.
