Robert Tevis Huguenot?

The following is from the noted Tevis researcher Nancy L.

Wow! Sephardic Jews. Who would have thought it. Seriously, 13 Oct 1682 a Robert Tivis married Honor Smith, Halstead, Essex, England. Reference: Parish records of Halstead, L.D.S. microfilm #1295960. (Researched by NancyAnn L., 1992)

No proof that he was the Boatman, but the timing is good.

The Huguenot claim came from unproved notes from Carroll Tevis, who was, to say the least, unreliable.

Information about Carroll Tevis is in the Tevis Family Letters, owned by a descendant. Mary B. has copies of these.

Carroll Tevis thought the name was originally "de Taillivis"; we were not convinced. The Huguenot claim shows up in "The Descendants of Peter Porter..." too, obviously from Carroll Tevis. All this is in the Chronology I prepared, a copy of which you probably have buried in your
files somewhere.

The chronology is on file in the following places: DAR Library, Md. State Archives, Md. Historical Society Library, Kentucky Historical Society, State Historical Society of Missouri, Allen Co. Public Library in Fort Wayne, IN; Shelby Co. Public Library in Shelbyville, KY; and Baltimore Genealogical Society.

I am sending a copy of your email to Mary B. She is getting close to finishing her (Tevis) book.
