You do not need a paid subscription to join an Ancestry DNA project, but you need to be registered with a user name and password. A male Teter descendant who prefers the FamilyTreeDNA 37-marker test may be able to get a discount through the Dietz project at the FTDNA website. Members of our project with FTDNA results can manually enter their results into a form at Ancestry, for view within our project. Like our 46-marker standard at Ancestry, less than 37 markers at FamilyTreeDNA are inadequate for comparison. We are not planning a maternal lineage mtDNA project at this time. The mtDNA test follows the maternal line along the bottom of a person’s pedigree chart. Each female generation has a different surname (for example, son and daughter Teter have mother Willoughby, maternal grandmother Cole, etc.), and thus would not help us compare Teter DNA. Again, descendants from all variations of Teter are welcome: Teater, Teeter, Teetor, Dieter, Deeter, Deter, or any of these with an added –s at the end. Your surname does not have to be one of these variations to join the group, but only males with a pure Teter (or variation) paternal lineage are eligible for YDNA testing. The link to request membership in our Ancestry DNA group, and to request the discount code for the 46-marker test, is http://groups.ancestry.com/site/59352241/public/.
