I should of noted this before. Origin of Rowan Co
in Daniel Boones own words and writting he noted that his freind being Capt Teater [Samuel Gibson Teater] who named his son Daniel Boone Teater, In the the events leading to the siege of Boonsborough went out 13 days or so. Means they left Boonebourgh.
Both Daniel Boone and Capt Samuel Gibson Teater were at bradoocks defeat, but boone spent less than 5 months and returned promptly back to Rowan co.
In order for Teater and Boone to be old friends that would also indicate they Grew up together in Rowan Co NC.
Daniel Boone was the uncle of George Teater Jr wife. Both George Teater and Squire Boone are mentioned inlaws of the will of William Vancleave.. Daniel Boone in the Draper Manuscript spoke very highly of Williams wife Abigail Vancleave who settled on the area of Madsion together with Squire Boone and George Teater Sr 1787 Madison tax list.
During the Indians attacks of 1777. Josesph Doddridge gave a accurate and detailed account of the night before the attack on thier fort. he explained that his uncle capt Samuel Gibson Teater had been in all the battles of the French Indian War.
He noted the Capts instructions on how to prepare thier weapons shot. How to place axes hoes for hand to hand combat. He instucted the women exactly where to place the buckets of water areas he knew the Indians would set fire.
He told the settlers if they failed all would be killed no mercy.. He also noted that Capt Teater was so confident the Indians wouldnt not attack until morning he found it not nesscary to place gaurds outside that night.
Of the attacks that week on all the nearby Forts, Teaters fort was passed by. So fierce was Capt Teaters reputation amoung the Indians they went by but didnt attack.,
Boone had no experiece in seige warfare. He must of summened Capt Teater to Co Command the siege which Boone knew was coming. Historians have left out Capt Teater in thier epic books and novels of the Seige of Boonesborough.
A Note that is usaully left out of Teaters history is that the powerful and fierce Seneca war chief White Eyes was Capt Teaters wife Marys Uncle.. Many of Seneca Warriors carried the Doddridge bloodline. In 1783 Capt Teater lead a raid on the Seneca. Which almost wiped that tribe out, His Battalion Commander was later captured and tortured to death by historys worst renegadeThe Black Irish Indian war chief Simon Girty.. In 1768 Samuel Teater lived alongside Simon Girtys brother and his inlaws the Worleys.
