Hi Carol, Do you know where Walter C. Teter was born and who his parents were? Just curious if there's any connection with my line. My 3gr-grandmother was Elizabeth Teter b 1803 in VA d 1865 (parents Joseph and Mary (Sharp) Teter),who married Elias Lawson in about 1822. They both died in Harrison Co. VA now WV.
This is all that I've found on Walter C. Teter.
According to this website: http://www.rosenet.org/quest/NewsArticles/2003/2003Battle_Over_Teterboro.htmhttp://www.rosenet.org/quest/NewsArticles/2003/2003Battle_Over_Teterboro.htm
Teterboro takes its name from Walter C. Teter, a New York investment banker, who bought hundreds of acres of swamp in the early 1900's with the notion of building a racetrack. The town of Teterboro was created by special legislation in 1917 by annexing sections of three towns. But when the state Racing Commission failed to approve the plan, Mr. Teter sold half of the property to an aircraft corporation, which built the facility. The Port Authority took control of the airport in 1949, and over the next six years acquired about 60 houses and farms in Moonachie and Hasbrouck Heights to expand it.
I searched the HeritageQuest census records for Walter C. but even though he was supposed to have lived in NY (& died in Manhattan), couldn't find him in 1900, 1910 or 1920. He was born 1863 and died Jan 28, 1929 (Obituary in Time Magazine http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,723602,00.html?promoid=googlep)http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,723602,00.html?promoid=googlep).
I also found a book which mentions him: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/18288http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/18288
The Project Gutenberg EBook of Northern Nut Growers Association Report of
the Proceedings at the Sixth Annual Meeting, by Various Authors. Pub 1915. It lists his address as 10 Wall St. New York City. Hope this adds a little information to what you already have. Thanks for anything that you can share.
