Mark, I just now found your post of February 17, 2002, and think we have a connection. My husband's Great Great Grandmother was Rosana/Rosalia Tessmer Splittstoser. According to my records, she had three children with her when she arrived in the United States: Michael (my husband's Great Grandfather)1853-1937; Charles abt. 1856-unknown; and Augusta abt. 1863-unknown (could she have been the baby accidentally dropped into the water?). I have a feeling that Rosa was already married to Frederick Splitstoser when she arrived in the U.S., but I have no proof. I have her with Fred. and her three children (listed as stepchildren to Fred. in the 1880 census) in the 1870, 1875, and 1880 Minnesota and Federal censuses. I know nothing about brothers to Carl (Charles, I assume) named Johann and Fred. I would be interested in where you got that information. Michael, the oldest son to my knowledge, brother to Carl (Charles) married Hulda Heinrich about 1882, and gave birth to 3 children: Charles, Laura, and Gustav. Laura Tessmer was my husband's grandmother, who married Benjamin Geist in 1915.
I am hopeful of hearing from you, and are hoping that we can exchange information on this family.
