Classmates of John HUGHES were Richard E. TERRILL [b. March 16, 1838] and possibly Jerome B. WATKINS [b. Feb. 20, 1834] in Trenton, NY, in winter of 1850. They attested to the character of John HUGHES in his Civil War military pension of which I have a copy. 1) Does anyone know of old schoolhouse records? 2) Would there be custody documents for 1850? My 2 great grandfather, John HUGHES [1834-1919]. immigrated from Wales in 1850 at age 16 years old, but I do not have any proof with whom he lived. (See the 1850 census below.) His parents, Hugh and Margret JONES HUGHES, died by 1837 and his grandparents, John and Mary PERRY HUGHES, probably raised him in Wales. ================================== 1850 - Remsen, Oneida, NY HUGHES, John - 63 - farmer - Wales Jane - 62 - (blank)- Wales Thomas - 24 - laborer - Wales Ellin [Ellen] - 21 - (blank)- Wales John - 15 - laborer - Wales.
