Hi Bill,
I believe that my ancestor Adam TERRIL be 1742 may be a descendant of Roger-Abigail, probably descended fr Samuel b 1647 who d Brookhaven, Long Island.
For years people in my family said that Adam was b Rhode Island and that his father Daniel came fr England. After considerable hunting I could find no record in Rhode Island and got to thinking about why not.I thought perhaps it was actually LONG Island, and began looking there. Bingo! There were TERRILs named Samuel(s), Thomas, Daniel, Adam etc.
I have not yet proven a direct link, but am still working on it.I know that as the British presence on Long Island grew more intolerable, many families gave up their property, some returned to CT, some went to NJ.
In NJ families closely associated w Adam TERRIL were DAYTON, RILEY, REEVE, THOMPSON, who came fr Long Island.
Back to the family, I went to Harvard University this summer to read the diary of Adam THOMPSON TERRIL (quite a procedure to get admitted to special collections)! What I learned was that he wrote his genealogy based on info "given of my half-brother" who was not a TERRIL, and he completely missed one of his father's brothers. He was b IL and never met his g'father back in NJ.I think he made a mistake and that Adam TERRIL b 1742 was b Long Island, probably in Brookhaven.
I would appreciate discussing this more with you if you like.
