Ron,
Ruth Cohlmia appears to be the 1st source associating the 1792 Thos/Mary Wigfield marriage with a Thomas (& Mary ?) in the 1800 Lincoln Co. census.
Since the 1800 census did not show a spouse's name, have you run into any reference (documented, undocumented or family lore) that might tie the Mary Wigfield of the Surry Co marriage to the Lincoln Co. Thomas.
My endless quest to unravel the mutiple Thomas' (which includes a Thomas A. Templeton who married a Mary (Ann Dovey) Wigfield & later ended up in Columbus, GA) gets more tangled when we consider the multiple Wigfield, Wiggfield, wingfields in Surry Co. circa 1780/90's (which includes a Thomas Wingfied who married a Beersheba Williams 8/23/1872--bondsman JOHN TEMPLETON.
Hopefully expanded use of DNA might eventually help furnish more clues.
