Marie
The vast majority of Robbs originate in Scotland, but many Scots families took part in the plantation of Protestants in Ireland in the C16-17th. Indeed, there is an aristocratic Robb family with its own Coat of Arms in Ireland that originated in 1660's from Edinburgh.
Without any other information I fear it might not be possible to know where your husbands branch originated from.

I have found no link between Robbs and MacFarlanes as yet, and although there may have been a MacFarlane who took Rob as a surname the vast majority of Robbs would have originated in the C14-15th when people only had a Christian name, and Rob was a shortening of Robert.

Regards

steven
