Actually, Sam and Elizabeth's daughter Mary remained a spinster and died between 1725 and 1739, as is evident in Sam and Elizabeth's wills. Both daughter Mary and Mary Newton are mentioned in Sam's 1725 will, only Mary Newton is mentioned in Elizabeth's 1739 will.
Mary Newton was the widow of Peter Tefft, orphan son of Sam's brother, Joshua. This persistant error is clarified in the Stonington Land Evidence 3:413 "Mary Newtons former Husband Peter Tift of sd Stonington Decesed" (sic) Mary Tift Newton's maiden name is uncertain. If you can trace your lineage to this Mary, then you are a descendant of Joshua Tefft, as Sam's daughter Mary had no children.
