Here is a very tentative genealogy of Jeremiah H. and James H. The Hommel connection is very strong throughout the family. Some points are definitely just possibilities - these are denoted by question marks. Comments are welcome.
PEDIGREE OF JEREMIAH TEETSEL
Jeremiah Hummel Teetsell was born (b)/christened (c) in West Camp, Ulster County, in 1835 He died in 1901. He and six other Teetsel(l)s fought with the 120th New York Volunteers (G company) in the Civil War. James H. was included.
Jeremiah was the son of Peter Titsel (Teitsel) Jr. and Sally Maria Wells (c. 1811 Katsbaum, 1811). They married in 1831. Maria was the daughter of John Wells and Sally Fraeligh.
Peter was the son of Petrus Teetsel (b. 1787) and Antje Hommel (c. 1788 Katsbaan). They married in 1807. This is the generation of the War of 1812 so there are military records available about this generation. In the direct Teetsel line, it is the first time that a Hommel actually appears. However, the two families intermarry throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.Peter was a corporal in Bevier's Battalion, New York Militia during the War of 1812 while his brother Jeremiah was a musician in the same Battalion. After the war, there is a record of Colonel Benjamin Bevier being admitted to the Reformed Dutch Church hurch in 1813 by Moses Freligh, Sally's brother. Moses held some religious role during the War of 1812.
Petrus was the son of Johannes Teetsel (b. 1758 Zunderbach, Germany) who in 1781 at Rhinebeck married Rosina Fiero (b/c 1756)
FEMALE LINES
HOMMELS: The Hommels link to the Teetsells, the Snyders (Schneiders), the Frelighs, the Fieros and the Brinks. Antje Hommel's parents were first cousins - Peter (Petrus) Hommel and Rachel Hommel. Peter was a revolutionary war soldier, whom many DAR women claim descent from. The shared grandparents were Hermanus Hommel and Anna Schneider, two generations from the revolution. Hans Jund Hommel married Margaret (Margaretha) Fiero in 1742 while Peter Hommel (b/c 1718/1719) married Margaretha Grietje Schneider.
FIERO: The Fiero family provide an early birth in America. Despite Rosina's Italian sounding name, her father was Christian Fuhrer (b. 1731 West Camp). He married Maria Breidenbach (b. 1735 Red Hook) at Red Dutchesse in 1756? Christian's father was John Fuhrer, born 1669 at West Camp and married in 1713 at West Camp to Anna Marie.
WELLS: John (Johannes) Wells (b. 1780 Rhinebeck), father of Sally Maria Wells, was also a member of Beviers Batallion. He is descended (?) from Hendrickus Wals (b. Saugerties, 1747) who married Margarit (Margriet, Margaretta, Margit, Margrieta) Burhans (b. Saugerties 1751) in 1772. The Burhans family line can be traced back to two generations before the revolution.?
