Have been trying to get through a roadblock on Mercy Holmes father William Holmes (wife Sally Allaben) my 4th great grandfather, thought I would try by following through the marriages of the children of William & Sally Holmes. Mercy Holmes b. April 16, 1801- d. July 30, 1865 married Truman Teed b. about Feb 1799- d. April 24, 1853, John Allaben Holmes (my 3rd great grandfather) b. about 1803- d. Jan 25, 1865 married Rachel Broadwell Lindsley b. July 16, 1806- d. July 8, 1880, Polly Holmes b. about 1805- d. April 21, 1860 married Timothy Fuller b. about 1798 - d. April 8, 1880, Esther Holmes b. about 1808 married Randall Fuller b. about 1802. All the above have ties to Delaware County, New York - have found references on Holmes and Allaben being in Westchester, Cortlandt Manor and Long Island.
The info I have found on Truman Teed suggests that his father is Charles Teed born 1789 in Somers, Westchester, Ny (wife Fanny Stedwell Gregory b. 1786), if this is so Charles would have been about 11 years old when he became a father. The info I found shows Charles father was Charles Teed of Stephentown, born Dec 26, 1750 in Stephentown (now Somers), Westchester, NY. Do I have a wrong birth date, wrong father or wrong line of Teeds?
Can anybody help?
I have found Truman and Mercy on census records in Ulysses, Tompkins County, Ny 1840 and 1850. Spelling of Teed on census was Tidd. 1840 census shows Truman living next door to John Tidd between the ages of 40-50.
Possibly bother. Will be happy to share what I have found on the census, children's name and other info.
