New DNA Breakthrough
We have a new DNA entry that is off at 37 markers by two points from descendants of Harmon and William Tedder who match perfectly at 37 markers. This person is descended from James Samuel Tedder who is in the 1860 Calhoun County Mississippi census. In this census is a George Washington Tedder believed to be James brother.I believe we can trace this person’s genealogy back to 1702.
In 1702 William Tetterton married Sarah Lilley, witnessed by his father, William, and others, in what became Tyrrell County, NC.William and Sarah had several sons, including a son named Samuel. One of Samuel’s sons was George Tedder, first documented in the 1755 Beaufort County, NC, census.George moved to Dobbs County and spent most of his life there.George’s will was dated Jan 1796 and he passed in Bladen County, NC.Mentions wife Sarah, children: Sarah, Elizabeth, William, George Jr, and Samuel.Executor was son William.Son Thomas not mentioned.Samuel is documented in Bladed County in 1800, 1810, and 1820.In 1820 he has two sons between 10 and 16.He and his wife were between 26 and 45.After this census I cannot find him again in NC.
In 1830 we find a Samuel in Upton County, Georgia.Samuel and wife both are age 50 to 60.Also in the 1830 census in a separate household is a George Teddor with two sons 5-10, 2 daughters less than 5, George and his wife are between 20 and 30.This George is more than likely Samuel’s oldest son, named after Samuel’s father. This data for Samuel’s and George’s ages matches the previous Bladen census.Believe the two sons are James Samuel, born in NC, and George Washington, born in GA.By 1840 George cannot be found in GA.However, it appears that Samuel’s younger son has joined him and is recorded in Samuel’s household in the 1840 Upton census.
In 1840 we find George in the Oktibbeha County, MS, census. He now has more children. Two boys less than 5, 1 5-10, 1 10-15, 1 15-20, he is 30-40.He has one daughter 5-10, 2 10-15, his wife is 30-40.In this census also is a Jesse Teder.George is shot dead before the next census.A Jesse Tedder, age 68, was in the MS penitentiary admissions 24 March 1848.Don’t know if there is a connection between the two events.
In the 1850 Oktibbeha census, we find George’s widow, Elizabeth, 47 and children Sarah 17, David 14. William 10.Also in the same census as a separate household is son George Washington with wife Charity 21, Sarah 3.James Samuel is not in the Oktibbeha census but there is a James Tedder in Choctaw in a land lottery for 3 parcels of land.In Chickasaw, non census data, we later find James S age 27 and Mary M 22, Joseph 4, Mary J 2, Sarah Ming 66.P.748, Dwelling 338, Western Div.We later find James S and George W in the 1860 Calhoun County, MS Census.
Believe James S and George W have to be brothers but can’t firmly nail it down.Request help!!!If this genealogy is correct we now can tie a large part of the NC Tedders and tettertons back to 1702.I believe we can go further and go back to Thomas Tedder who arrived in VA in 1635.
