Hello Teague Researchers...

I am currently researching my Collett family and have my lineage traced back to Abraham Collett born by 1701, who is first listed as a resident of Cecil Co., MD owning land on Mount Pisgah in today's "Perry Point". I am interested in the William Teague family, who is listed as owning land above Abraham Collett's land in 1736...

"Book I Land Commissions of Cecil Co., MD 1724-1751 pp265-270, page 265 Cecil Co., Md June Court 1736 Held for sd County: The Justices of Cecil Co. aforesaid in court judicially setting To Mr. Randall Death, Mr. William Husbands, Mr. Joshua Ewing of Cecil Co., Gentlemen, Whereas William Teague of sd County, Planter, by the humble petition to us”.[This is to determine boundaries of land, TEAGUES CHOICE, depositions were taken from several persons]. On page 270: “October 28, 1736 the deposition of James Porter aged about thirty (30) years [E.W.R. Ewing in CLAN EWING OF SCOTLAND page 119 quotes J.W. Kernohan, Secy. of Presby. Hist. Soc. of Ireland as saying that James Porter was born 1699, brother to Rachel who married Nathaniel Ewing] and Joshua Ewing aged about 32, and James Ewing aged about 24 and Samuel Ewing aged about 31 and Andrew Madow aged about 24 saith being Solemy sworn on the Holy Evangelest of Almighty God that a certain Stoney Hill some distance below the place where Abraham Collett’s evidence was taken the fifth day of August last is the first Hill from the mouth of Conowingo Creek” [Note: Abraham Collett patented in 1765 MOUNT PLEASANT 80 acres just north of William Teague’s TEAGUES CHOICE or HOPEWELL just north of Edw. Teague’s DELIGHT] “and the descent of the Hill they understand to be the Brow thereof where we made a small heap of stones and further swear that a certain Edward Murp (blurred) told them this day that William Teague twenty one years ago showed him a white ash tree the which tree he said William Teague told him that it was one of his line trees and further saith not.”

I did some initial reasearch and found that William Teague was born ca 1693 Cecil Co., MD and died either 1762 or 1775 Rowan Co., NC (depending on the source)...he apparently had a very similar migration to our Collett family, as they spent time in Frederick Co, VA before coming to Rowan Co., NC...it is said that William Teague either married Isabelle Loftin (Lofften was also named as Test below) or Isabelle Pennington...and I think there are other branches of our Collett family with Pennington connections...either way, figuring out who this Ezekiah Botch may have been could provide earlier clues to Abraham Collett's ancestry...I am guessing that "Botch" could be a transcription error, as I can't find anything on that line for the time and place under question.

"Botch, Ezekiah,Cecil Co.,4th May, 1732;
14th June, 1732.
To wife Dorrety extx., entire estate except legacies to sons James and John and dau. Rachel Ginkns.
Test: William Teague, Abraham Collett (Collet), Thomas Lofften. 20. 651. "

And now I have found the following in a searchable index available through the Maryland State Archives:

Proceedings of the Council of Maryland 1636-1667
Vol. 3 Page 566

Capt. John Collett (many page listings)
Richard Collett (many page listings)
Teague Collett page 133

The interesting thing is the listing for Teague Collett...especially for those dates and the 1732 Cecil Co., MD listing below that also lists the Teague surname in the same records as Abraham Collett:

Botch, Ezekiah,Cecil Co.,4th May, 1732;
14th June, 1732.
To wife Dorrety extx., entire estate except legacies to sons James and John
and dau. Rachel Ginkns.
Test: William Teague, Abraham Collett (Collet), Thomas Lofften. 20. 651.

The Richard and John Collett lineage is very well documented and my earlier hunches were that Abraham Collett, who we have earlier designated as Abe I and born by 1701 (based on his 1722 land record) was connected to Jeremiah Collett of Chester Co., PA. In reality, where Abraham is documented as owning 80 acres of land from at least 1722 - 1735 (today's Perry Point, MD)...Jeremiah Collett was listed in court records as being from Chichester, PA...Jeremiah's brother, William, was in Wilmington, DE...and the Richard Collett family was around Baltimore, MD....all 3 locations are within 45 miles of where Abraham Collett was living. Depending on what the "Teague Collett" listing refers between 1636-1667, that would most likely place that reference in relation to the Richard Collett group of Baltimore...Jeremiah didn't arrive in PA until 1682.

I do plan to start researching earlier MD records (starting with Cecil County) in the very near future...I am banking that the connection to Abraham's ancestry is out there to be found...we just need to start getting source records to make that connection.

My question to the Teague researchers is what are the sources for William Teague's wife as Loftin or Pennington?
