I am looking for information about the Sampson Taylor family from Mercer county WV. I just recently start my research and below is an outline of what I have found to date. I would appreciate any new information or corrections. Charlie Taylor
Descendants of Sampson Austin Taylor - Mercer county WV
1 Sampson Austin Taylor 1817 – 1901
Sampson was a landowner, woodsman and farmer in Mercer county West Virginia. He could neither read nor write but courthouse records show he possessed a keen business sense, which probably assured his survival in a pioneer land. His fist marriage was with Mary Miller and it produced twelve children – five sons and seven daughters. Mary died soon after her 12th child was born. Sampson’s second marriage was to Martha Katherine Taylor, daughter of John and Mary Taylor, on October 5, 1865. This union produces ten children, who also settled and lived in Mercer County.
