I've been searching for information about the Tavis family for the last few months and just ran across Valerie's request for information. Specifically, I'm trying to find the name of Hilda Ann Herman's mother. I believe her father was August Richard Herman, who worked at the general store in Glen Ullin, probably for John Tavis. Hilda spent her childhood with John Tavis and Theresa Rolf, who claimed her as a granddaughter on census forms of 1900, 1910, and 1920. (Is a Tavis daughter--perhaps Minnie--Hilda's mother?) In 1930, Hilda is married and living with her husband, Roscoe C. Higbee. On a later record, the name of Hilda's mother is listed as "Tavis." Philomina Tavis was 15 years older than Hilda. Philomina is listed on the census of 1900 and 1910 as living with her parents, John and Theresa, then in 1920 I see Minnie (age 26) living with her siblings Louis, Frank, and Helen. In 1930 Minnie is married to Henry B. Morman and has a 6-month-old son, Vern J. Morman. I was married to Roscoe's son and have two grown Higbee children. If there's further information to help me prepare their geneologies, I would be most grateful. Jan Notify Administrator about this message?
