Help!!! Though I am confident that my wife's 6th great-grandmother was a "Mary Tatum" who married John Howell (John seemingly was born c. 1675-1680 and died 1717), I am quite confused about the ancestry of my wife's Mary Tatum. I am thinking that the Mary Tatum (named above) must be connected in some way with Nathaniel Tatum (the immigrant born in 1599 who came to Virginia in 1619 from Bridewell on the "George"). But I don't know how the two of them are related. Assuming that my wife's Mary Tatum was of similar age to her husband John Howell (who had a birth date of near 1675), Mary would be too young to be the daughter of Nathaniel (the immigrant) because Nathaniel's daughter, Mary, was born before 1638. I am wondering if Mary Tatum Howell perhaps could be the granddaughter of Nathaniel Tatum (the immigrant). Though it seems to be that the granddaughter/grandfather relationship is a possibility for Mary Tatum Howell and Nathaniel Tatum (at least their birth dates work out fine for this), I have found no proof of such a relationship. [I continue to wonder, however, if Nathaniel (the immigrant) had a son named Nathaniel (Jr. or II), if Nathaniel (Jr. or II) married Elizabeth Turner, and if Nathaniel (Jr. or II) and Elizabeth Turner had a daughter named Mary Tatum (who married John Howell). But since I have found no listing that shows that Nathaniel and Elizabeth had a child named Mary, I may well need to look in a new direction for the ancestry of Mary Tatum Howell.] I would be most appreciative if anyone can offer me help on the ancestry of my wife's ancestor, Mary Tatum Howell. I'm really confused. Thanks, Dallas Lacy qjdlacy@sbcglobal.net Notify Administrator about this message?
